This will mark the last day that we are taking bets for games in the regular season. Although there is that one extra Winnipeg game... hmmm... Never say Never I guess. Well anyway, with 15 total games, we are absoluetly loaded. With players resting a lot of players, I punted on a lot of teams and games. Here was what I came up with:
Gustav Nyquist any-time goal scorer @ Pittsburgh (+350)
The Goose is Loose! As someone who is a Penguins fan and watches a lot of their games, Goose is always doing some form of damage to them. In the last 5 career games against the Penguins, Gustav has 5 goals. Zoom out further, to the past 10 games, and he has 8 goals. I don't know how this guy does it, but he is historically scoring goals on them all the time. Goose is on the top line with the red hot Jack Roslovic and Jakub Vorecek (who also owns the Penguins). To boost our bias even further, he is also on the top power play and remember my tweet from a few days ago. The Penguins have given up more shots in their last 10 games than any other team in the league. For the odds of +350 tonight, this is comparitevely good to a sharp sports betting site like Pinnacle, which is offering +305 only, giving us pretty solid expected value. I am betting a unit that is a free bet, so for me, it's well worth the risk.
Montreal 1st Period ML (Tie no bet) VS Florida (+160)
Here are some favorable things for Montreal tonight:
- Florida has already clinched the President's Trophy and thus likely to rest some of their players (Bennett, Forsling, Lundell, Reinhart, Huberdeau, Barkov, Giroux, Weegar are all confirmed out)
- Bob and Knight are also not starting
- Carey Price is in net
- Florida is a team that has given up a lot of first period goals this year
- If it's a draw in the first, we get our bet back
Joe Pavelski un0.5 pts VS Anaheim (+165)
This bet may end up getting voided if Joe gets a rest tonight, which is fine. You really have to look at his stat line against Anaheim though. In the last 11 games, Joe has only 1 point total against the Ducks. Yes, you are reading that corretly. Just one point. This includes at least half of those games on a loaded San Jose team. I have no idea why this is, but it is so comical to me. Additionally, the goalie he scored on was Chad Johnson and not John Gibson, who is confirmed tonight. If other Stars are rested, Joe might not have great line-mates if he isn't one to be rested. There's a chance he wants to play for the 82 game ironman season. Either way, it will be interesting to see how it shapes out. I'm taking a chance at +165, here. Don't tail and mortgage the house on this though. Unders are always stressful, especially when you take a guy like Joe to NOT log a point in a game.
Detroit Moneyline @ New Jersey (+125)
The Devils got whooped yesterday by the Hurricanes despite them missing at least 3 of their best players. Hischier was out with an illness last game, but he's expected to give it a go and you have to think he may possibly be limited tonight or not play his usual minutes. Detroit also beat them in their last match-up, 3-0. It may be close, but I give the advantage to Detroit. Jersey is on the back end of a back-to-back after getting smacked around by Carolina's middle 6 and are injury / illness depleted. The line has upped to +145 now for Detroit, for what its worth but I took it prior to the Hischier news, unfortunately.
Nick Schmaltz ov0.5 points VS Nashville (-140)
Schmaltz has been heating up again with 6 points in the last 5 games, including giving Minnesota and Dallas (two playoff bound teams) trouble and ultimately played a part in delivering losses to them. He also is getting great deployment and has great history against them.
