There's a lot of action tonight, so I won't bore you with some boomer story or some other obscure analogy. Let's get into it! Keep an eye out on our Twitter (@StatGlitchers) for some late adds to this betting slate, as there is a lot I'm considering additionally.
Ottawa @ Florida- Both teams to score 1st Period (+150)
Just call it a hunch. The over 1.5 goals in period one for this game is not very profitable at -185 now. However, for both teams to score in the first, this line is set at a much more attractive +150 right now. Both Florida and Ottawa have been getting involved in fast paced games recently. On one hand, Ottawa got out to a 2-0 lead against Tampa Bay on Tuesday early in the first. This was starting to look like a genius moneyline play for anyone who took a crack on them. However, they stalled out and gave up 5 straight goals to lose 2-5. Florida also got out to a fast paced game against Edmonton on Saturday. They responded to a goal at the half way point of the first period with two relatively quick strikes on net. They also let up some quick goals to Columbus while battling it back. This team is just built for offensive thriller games. The bet will make for a great watch at the very least.
Zach Hyman o2.5 shots @ Chicago (-130)
While Evander Kane came onto the scene firing the puck like a madman, he's slowly stopped shooting the puck it seems. It's almost like he took bets on himself to shoot under... never mind. Hyman has been very consistent with his shot totals recently, with 12 shots in the last 3 games. He also has 29 shots in the last 9 games played. Chicago's defense is being held together by Seth Jones, and that's literally it. He plays very streaky on top of that. Since Hyman is going to slot in with either Draisatl or McDavid, you have to like his chances for 3 shots or more again tonight.
Jordan Staal u0.5 points @ Washington (-185)
Staal is playing on the 3rd line with Nino Niederreiter and Jesper Fast and this line has been getting out-worked recently in terms of puck possession. Staal is also not on a power-play line at all currently, although there is still a chance he logs some time there with the Brind'amour Blender. In the last 3 years, Staal has only posted 2 points in 7 games against Washington. He has not really been shooting the puck much either with 6 games of 1 shot or less in the last 8 games played. Sadly, I think the days of his elite 2 way play has been reduced to more of a defensive / grinder role. The odds aren't tremendous, this is likely to hit (or I guess not hit a point) and it can be used safely as a little booster on short parlays with reasonable risk.
Mikko Rantanen Anytime Goal Scorer @ Arizona University (+100)
About a month ago in their last game, I took Mikko for over 1.5 points against the Yotes. I thought about doing the anytime goal scorer, but it made more sense to me at the time that he would log multiple points against a team with no stadium to play in. I should have bet the anytime goal scorer. In 3 games against Arizona this year, Mikko has 4 goals. Furthermore, if you zoom out further, it's even more sick with 10 goals scored in the last 12 team meetings.
Cole Caufield o0.5 points @ Calgary (+110)
We will not get off the Cole-Train (Gears of War reference for you nerds out there), until the Cole-Train has fully stopped moving. His line of Nick Suzuki and Josh Anderson has been dominant in offensive abilities. Josh Anderson scored a hat-trick against Winnipeg and Connor Hellebuyck in the first period. It looks like Martin St. Louis figured it out finally. However, unfortunately, he needs to figure out how to patch up 8 goals against with the Jets. All of the odds are loaded toward the Calgary side of the game tonight, but I think Markstrom has sneakily been under-performing recently. In the last 3 games, he was blown up and got pulled against Vancouver. Then he let up 3 goals on 25 shots against Minnesota. He rebounded nicely in the last game, but this could be a classic trap game for the Flames tonight. Teams from Canada duking it out, there's no telling what can happen. Anyone from that first line could get a point tonight, but Cole offers good odds at +110 and good balance in his game to log a point.
