Hockey Bets 03/04

Kurt Kuklewicz

When you get momentum building, you don't want to press your luck with gambling I've found. Once you start shelling out a bunch of risky bets, thinking you can afford it after a couple W's, that's when I noticed the money slowly dwindle away. Even if they are small wagers, it adds up quick. It's easy to justify taking a little more risk though after a couple big wins. Our win streak has been extended to three days now, going back to Tuesday where we started the week off 3-2. There's actually less games on the slate for tonight, but there is plenty I like for betting purposes. With nearly bets picked in all games tonight (5/7) I like a lot of great value.

Tyler Seguin anytime goal scorer @ Winnipeg (+245)

It's that time again! You know we got to get in one Seguin prop against Winnipeg. We used his career history against Winnipeg to our advantage in the last two games against them, and we were successful. He waited until the last period when he won our props in both match-ups, but it still counts. Over 2.5 shots for one, and over a point for the other. When I researched this match-up earlier in the season, I noticed that he was completely owning them in his career for some reason. His stats in 3 games played against the Jets this year are 3 goals, 2 assists, 5 points and 11 shots. But wait, it gets better. Looking at his last 10 games played against them, he has 7 goals, 6 assists, 13 points and 43 shots! Does he have some kind of personal vendetta against Winnipeg? In recent performance, Seguin has 1 goal and 2 assists in the last 4 games, but keep in mind he has scored in every single meeting with the Jets this year. The good thing is that he has 21 shots in the last 6 games too.

Bet was pulled due to an alert that Tyler Seguin has an illness and is questionable for tonight's game. As long as you can cash-out still at near even wager, pulling may be wise as his ice-time and deployment may suffer with an illness, not to mention his game-play.

Tyler Bertuzzi o0.5 points @ Tampa Bay (-140)

Do you remember Tyler Bertuzzi's first game this year? I'll give you a quick refresher, it was a 4 goal performance in a losing battle (6-7) against Tampa Bay. Vasilevskiy was actually tending goal that game, but he will likely be on the bench tonight after playing last night and getting lit up for 4 goals against the Penguins. 45 points in 46 games this year, the likelihood of Elliott drawing into the net tonight, and averaging over 21 and a half minutes in the last 5 games, leaves the certainty of this bet hitting very strong.

Dustin Brown u0.5 points @ Columbus (-185)

Brown's strong deployment is a thing of the past. A fleeting memory, like the two Stanley Cups that the Kings won in the 2010's decade. In fact, Brown just skated 10 minutes last game. Brown is on the 3rd line with Carl Grundstrom (?) and Quinton Byfield, who still seems a little slow after recovering from his ankle injury. In terms of even strength play, that line actually accounted for the least amount of time play against Dallas. Dustin still does slot into the power-play occasionally, and he scored a point there last game, but he only sports 3 power-play points on the whole season. Don't bank on that happening very frequently.

Jesper Bratt o2.5 shots @ New York Rangers (-130)

On Wednesday, I mentioned how the Rangers were silently giving up a lot of shots at home recently. We took the over for shot totals for David Perron at 2.5 and he did not disappoint. The Rangers let up another 32 shots too. Today, Jesper Bratt pops out at me with that -130 line at 2.5 shots. His play recently has been riding hot with Nico Hischier centering his line again. In the last 4 games, Bratt has 17 shots taken. He is also now a point-per-game player with 50 in 49 played.

Vegas @ Anaheim under 5.5 goals (+100)

Both teams have looked a little flat in their last couple games offensively. Anaheim has scored just 4 goals in the last 3 games and Vegas has lost 5 out of the last 6 games, totaling just 10 goals scored in this stretch. Jack Eichel has played the last 7 games for Vegas... Hmm, maybe there is some correlation here? Were the Sabres right to get rid of him??? This is madness. It's too early to say, of course (although Tuch is playing just fine in his place so far in Buffalo). It might not be fair to Jack, but he is probably going to get a lot of heat if the Golden Knights don't make the playoffs this year. That would mean that the team really went south after acquiring him. I'll be looking forward to the controversies he creates on Twitter again in the near future, if that happens. Future New York Ranger by 2025?

Evgeni Malkin o2.5 shots @ Carolina (+105)

Malkin is playing well lately, with 11 points in the last 7 games. Zoom out further and he has even better numbers. About 1/4 of his ice time in the past 4-5 games is coming on the power-play, and Pittsburgh has no problem drawing penalties (as many Flyer fans will try to tell you about Crosby). Mike Sullivan has deployed him wisely over this season to avoid wear-and-tear that cause his common injury issues. Kapanen and Heinen are both getting in on assists with him on the 2nd line, but Malkin is by far the best shooter in this bunch. They are also in control of shots, as this bunch of linemates had 9 shots in just 12 minutes of ice time. The even better news? The puck possession is almost near 69.420% (nice). This is enabling Malkin to shoot the puck more. In the last 6 games, Geno has 22 shots on net, and he is averaging 4 shots a game in the last 3.
