Hockey Bets 03/26

Kurt Kuklewicz

Today is an interesting slate of bets we bring. Many are player prop bets that are over +100 or greater. I don't necessarily except to go greater than .500 % with our 8 picks, but if we manage that, I fully expect to be up a lot of units. See what I mean here:

Jean-Gabriel Pageau Anytime Goal Scorer (+450)

Today's long shot play is brought to you by the New York Islanders. JGP potted a goal in the last game against the Bruins in mid February. However, he also had 4 shots in the prior game against them. He is currently averaging around 18 minutes in the last three games, and he is on the 2nd line, and first powerplay. I think the true value of this bet should be around +340 or so. When we are getting better odds than expected, I will always prefer to play good value.

Victor Hedman o2.5 shots on goal @ Detroit (+115)

Hedman comes into this game with 11 points in the last 10 games, and playing a Detroit team that has given up a lot of shots and points especially. Hedman also historically shoots well against the Wings, with nearly 2.9 shots on goal in the last 3 years per game. McDonagh is also going to be out for a bit, so this is going to cause the Lightning to lean on Hedman more. More leaning = more ice time. More ice time = more shots.

Bo Horvat o2.5 shots on goal @ Dallas (-110)

Horvat is shooting the puck nicely with 3 goals in the last 3 games. He also shoots around almost 4 shots per game against Dallas. This is great value for Horvat today. Dallas has been hit or miss lately defensively as well.

Nico Hischier o0.5 points @ Washington (-160)

Nico has 8 points in the last 4 games, and he is just a game or two away of having his betting line for points bumped up to over / under 1.5, in my opinion. He's seeing ice time around 20 minutes in the last few games, and he also has a fantastic run in Feb / March with over 22 points in 16 games. If you roster him in fantasy hockey, you are certainly not complaining. While the Devils are healthy and hot, it would be wise to keep rolling with them. They also outright embarrassed the Rangers and Igor, causing him to get a bump downward in his MVP talk.

Kevin Fiala Anytime Goal Scorer VS Columbus (+190)

Fiala is shooting the puck at the highest rate of his career. His 3.3 shots per game has really given him great odds to score. Earlier this season, Fiala faced Columbus and didn't score, but had a whopping 7 shots on net. I like his chances to find twine tonight, especially because Columbus seems like they are playing gassed or tired lately. They are still managing to find ways to win and get points occasionally, but they are letting up a lot of goals in the meantime. It's very logical to think that Fiala ends up on the board again with a Geno.

Connor McDavid Anytime Goal Scorer @ Calgary (+140)

Connor McDavid owns the Flames. In the last 3 years alone, he has put up 15 goals in the last 18 games played against Calgary. He will also either draw Vladar or Markstrom coming off back to back starts consecutively. This is a lot to consider positively, and therefore, I see +140 odds very profitable for tonight. Most nights we are lucky to get +100 for McDavid to score.

Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline @ St. Louis (-125)

The Canes have been drawing a lot of tough matchups lately. I will read you their last 6 opponents in order of most recent: Stars, Lightning, Rangers, Capitals, Maple Leafs, Penguins. They are 1-3-2 during this stretch, but many of the games were very close. This has caused their odds to dwindle a bit recently in money-line, but the team is still playing great defense. They haven't allowed more than 3 goals in regulation in the last 5. I'm still very sus of Husso and especially Binnington when they play. Give me Rod's boys tonight.

Anze Kopitar o0.5 PPP VS Seattle (+240)

Simply put, Seattle is absolutely AWFUL against the power-play. They had 11 PPG allowed in the last 8 games leading up to the game against Arizona this week. They then made it 12 allowed in the last 9 games, giving up a goal on the power-play to the Yotes. While this team is performing badly on the PK, and after shipping away some good players, many that were good defensively (like Colin Blackwell), it would make most sense to ride this momentum and bet against them. Kopitar has the best chance to log a PPP out of all the Kings.
