Where, oh where, do we go from here? After going 1-4 on that brutal Presidents Day schedule (Thanks Obama), we followed that up with a 1-2 performance in the pick'ems last night. To be fair, they were all boosted odds, but they were not long-shots by any of the stretch of the imagination. Additionally, the parlay bet we placed barely missed last night due to the Islanders remembering how to shoot the puck again. It's sad but true, these things do happen. One day things will return to normal and the Islanders will begin winning games 2-1 and 3-2 in shootouts again. This has hurt a bit though. Mama, start the biscuits and gravy. We need some comfort food after our rough day. Returning back to what works best, the king of player props returns to pick us up from our time in the dumps.
Cole Caufield o0.5 points VS Buffalo (-125)
It seems that Marty St. Louis might be connecting differently with his team now. Montreal seems to be garnering some momentum after squashing Toronto 5-2 on Monday. It looked like Brock Lesnar ripping through a gauntlet of jobbers in WWE, except the jobbers were the Toronto Maple Leafs for once. Cole Caufield has been a clear beneficiary of the Habs' recent run. Cole has 8 points in the last six games, which has been the current tenure of Martin St. Louis as head coach, strangely enough. Perhaps the biggest difference is that Cole is logging more ice time recently, and he is back to playing with talented linemates Nick Suzuki and Josh Anderson. He has skated 18 or more minutes in the last 3 out of 4 games. Furthermore, in the short-term, he has been excellent with 3 goals and 3 assists in the last 3 games. I like Caufield to keep gaining steam. Finally, we are starting to see what we all expected out of him this season.
Tyler Seguin o0.5 points VS Winnipeg (-115)
In a game previously this season, I stated how Tyler Seguin always plays above his head against the Winnipeg Jets. In two games against Winnipeg earlier in the season, Seguin had totaled 2 goals and 1 assist. In the last 10 games against the Jets, he has 15 points for a 1.5 point per game performance and he only missed gaining a point in one of those games, during the 2019-20 season. Dallas has been experimenting with their 2nd lineup recently, with Michael Raffl getting some time with Seguin and Gurianov. However, Seguin is still stapled to that top power-play unit, which logs about 75% of their power-play time recently. This should give him ample opportunity to log a goal or an apple tonight. It is really as simple as that, ladies and gentlemen.
Nikita Kucherov o3.5 shots on goal VS Edmonton (+115)
I know I generally have a rule about avoiding the over on 3.5 shots unless the player's name is Matthews or Ovechkin, but we may need to seriously consider adding Kucherov to this list. Earlier in the season, the line was set at 2.5 shots for him and he would easily achieve this by the middle of the 2nd period. I think even once before the end of the 1st period he shattered 2.5 shots for me, with 4 shots on net in just the 1st alone. The guy loves to shoot his shot. I looked at his game log and in the last 10 games, Kucherov has shot the puck 4 or more times in 9/10 games. The only game he didn't achieve 4 shots recently was against the Coyotes, and they coasted to an early 2-0 lead in that game. If Connor McDavid and Pissy Draisaitl are going to compete in this game, this could be one of those old-fashioned clobberknockers where Kucherov will need to elevate his game to ensure victory.
