Hockey Bets 03/24
Kurt Kuklewicz
Wow, those 11 bet for 11 games was wild on Tuesday. It probably will be awhile before I try something like this again. It was a very stressful night, with 3 devices watching games, while I was on a stationary bike at home to keep from pacing all around the living room. I wasn't really thinking of preemptively doing a huge betting slate like that, but I kind of lucked into it, really. It was easy to find a lot of good bets because I circled a lot of players / lines the night before that ended up having very good value. By the time I was at 8 or 9 bets, I thought, "might as well add a bet in the Ottawa / Islanders game" (thankfully this one was right). Additionally, Clayton Keller delivered with the PPP near the end of the night to ensure a profit of 2.2 betting units for us. Iafallo did us dirty from going up close to 4 units when the Kings scored a goal around 8 minutes left in the game. Ah, what could have been. The profit is great, nevertheless. Today, there are a lot of games, but there is a lot of uncertainty with these games. For example, with Florida, how will Giroux shape up? What will that do to the other lines and deployment of guys like Reinhart and Bennett? Will the Flower florish in his first potential start with the Wild tonight? I just punted away and looked elsewhere in most situations like this. Here is where I feel pretty confident today:
LA Kings -1.5 puck line VS Chicago (+135)
The last time LA faced Chicago, you would have to dig back more than 3 years almost to find the score-sheet. They had a game scheduled in late March 2020, but of course, Corona won that game. During their last meeting, which almost means nothing now, the Kings won in OT 4-3 with Quick as the goaltender. Actually, maybe something that does matter is the fact that Quick has a very solid record against Chicago in the last 5 regular season meetings with 4 wins. He is not guaranteed to be the starter tonight, but I found that interesting because in 2019 and prior years, the Blackhawks were a much better team. The line has been shifting to lower odds for the Kings -1.5, so it appears that sharp sports betters are coming in and taking this.
Anders Lee o0.5 points VS Detroit (-125)
Detroit has fared better recently defensively, but Anders Lee is still clipping points almost every night he plays; 13 points in the last 9 games for the captain. He scored a point in all but one of those games (the Flyers of all teams), so the consistency is definitely there. He also scored a goal in their last meeting. In the last 5 meetings against the Red Wings, Lee has 7 points in 5 games. This looks promising to continue.
Kevin Hayes o0.5 points @ St Louis (-110)
Having bet on Kevin Hayes to score a goal the last game he played, I watched almost all of this game on ESPN+. I was very impressed with what I saw. He had a couple of nice passes that led to goals. The Farabee goal was an awesome play on a 2-1 breakout, where both players passed the puck back to each other, with Joel getting the easy tap in on Ned. It is pretty evident to me that Hayes is going to remain the number one center the rest of the way. We need to take advantage of every line set while he is hot, healthy and getting the best deployment.
Nikolaj Ehlers o0.5 points VS Ottawa (-155)
Ehlers is dominant against Ottawa, with 13 points in the last 10 against the Senators. Additionally, he has 8 points in the last 6 games while Winnipeg seems to be gaining steam and ground on the last wildcard spot in the West. I still don't have a ton of faith in the Senators goaltending and defense, so give me Little Nicky (I know he's over 6 feet tall) to log a point tonight.
Filip Forsberg o2.5 shots @ Vegas (-145)
This was an easy bet for me because Forsberg has 15 shots in the last 4 games, but also has 4 goals against Vegas on the season. He also achieved the o2.5 shots in both meetings. We know Vegas has massive issues everywhere, including offense too, and they are slowly choking away a playoff spot. Smashville is a team that does not relent against great opportunities and they are fresh and mad off a 6 goal pounding from LA.
