There's not a lot to choose from that looks smart with games tonight, and I'm done trying to bet the over on 1st period goals anymore. It's also tough to really analyze every goalie match-up for tonight, especially since some teams LOVE to keep us waiting in suspense (cough cough, Vegas, Nashville and New York Islanders). All of the players that are hot seem like a trap. Brett Howden 3 goals tonight! The streak continues... Therefore, I will be taking unders that seem likely to hit, and one over. Taking unders are very suspenseful to me. Your bet is shot as soon as they go over and it can happen in a matter of minutes. I bet Trevor Zegras under 2.5 shots on goal once and he had 0 heading into the 3rd and I was looking pretty and feeling dandy. When I checked the score in the 3rd, he somehow notched 4 shots around the 8 minute mark! It's VERY anti-climatic when that happens, you just sit in misery. At least when I bet on a Brett Howden hat-trick, he can theoretically hit that until the last second of the game. By the way, for curiosity, Brett Howden has +600 as anytime goal scorer tonight. Don't go wild here though, he has 4 goals (half his season total) on his last 5 shots and averages UNDER 1.0 shots per game for the season. He is just getting some of the best puck line I've seen for a 4th liner in a while.
Sean Monahan u0.5 points VS Vegas (-155)
The days of Boring Sean Monahan are plentiful and strong among us. Sean is off the first line and centering the 3rd line, he's averaging about 11 minutes a game in the last two games or so, and he has 0 points in his last 5 games played. Vegas is playing in defensive games lately and there really isn't much else to say here.
Pius Suter u0.5 points @ Philly (-155)
Pew Pew Suter has just 2 points in his last 13 games and his ice time has dipped in the past few games to 16-17 minutes a game, with a large chunk playing short-handed. Furthermore, he has just 54 seconds of Powerplay time in the last five games. I know we joke about Carter Hart and the Flyers being bad, but he's actually been fairly solid in net the past few games. This is also a better time to play an under as to say when Martin Jones is in net, who lets up nearly everything.
Filip Forsberg o2.5 shots on goal @ Dallas (-160)
With 8 points in the last 4 games, Forsberg has been tearing it up recently. In the same number of games, he has 12 shots on goal. He should be on the top line and powerplay, and this should be a relatively safe bet tonight. I was also tempted to pick John Klingberg over 0.5 PPP tonight, but we know how random power plays can be each night. Sometimes, you only get 2 powerplays a game these days. Part of me just sees Forsberg streaking in on goal in the first or second shift and scoring the first goal in the game (+1000 if you want to throw some money away), but Oettinger has had some very good performances this season. 50% of his starts are considered quality starts. Therefore, it's a bit more realistic with the shot total I feel.
