Hockey Bets 01/27

Kurt Kuklewicz

Today, we will try our best to bet without emotions and impulses, but probably do it anyway, cause YOLO! Logic is a great thing, but eventually our emotions take control of us. Ever set a Daily fantasy football lineup similar to your actual fantasy football lineup because you thought you were gonna CRUSH it? How'd that turn out? Probably not great. You probably got smoked in the bet and your fantasy league, losing to last place and you're left sitting there wondering how you were deluded more than Toronto Maple Leaf fans every year ("they're gonna make it past the first round this time, I just know it bro"). Therefore, that's why I try to avoid bets when I have some emotional logic on the line. It's like betting your favorite team to win the Stanley Cup... But on the off chance you are right, think of HOW MUCH adrenaline you'll get. Favorite team wins it all + you're rich? Second thought, sign me up for those kind of rewards! Let's see how successful we'll be:

Chris Kreider Anytime Scorer @ CBJ +110

This is where I may have some personal bias bleeding into bets, but hear me out. So I took Chris Kreider in my ESPN fantasy hockey league this year in the 10th round, which has worked out nicely. I had to thank my father, who had him on his team for the last 5 years, but passed him up to me this year. "Finally letting go". When Kreider started out awesome, I immediately put him on the trade block, given his history, thinking his pickup in stats this year was just a fluke. Nobody made me an offer though. And as time past, I became more and more interested and invested to the goal scoring lead. And when I saw him as the "Most Goalscorer" candidate at +6000 on draftkings, and close to the league lead, I thought, why not, and gifted a $4.20 bet to my father as a joke for Christmas. A way to show appreciation, pay it forward, they say right? 6 games in a row with a goal, with 9 goals overall. If Columbus is giving up 65+ shots again like they did last night, we really like this bet to cash in tonight. It is really funny to think that Chris Kreider is swinging for the fences each night with Ovie as they put pressure on each other for the Rocket Richard trophy... like Sammy Sosa did with Mark McGuire for home-runs in baseball.

Ducks and Montreal o5.5 goals -115

Cayden Primeau is starting in net tonight for Montreal and Gibson has the day off. We took Gibson's hot streak to our advantage yesterday, taking the puck line +1.5 against Toronto (congrats if you took the Overtime Yes bonus ,you degenerate). Primeau has some good pedigree, but unfortunately, his team in front of him is really bad right now. Here are Primeau's outings in the last 3 games this year: 5GA, 3GA and 4GA. To make matters worse, he was pulled in two of those outings and the team let up a total of 16 goals in those games. Stolarz has performed well in the beginning of the season, but he's really failed lately to get any momentum going recently. While this game is a good catalyst to do that finally, he still needs to work his game out a bit more.

WPG Jets / Under 5.5 same game parlay +200

The Jets are at home tonight against the skeleton crew of Vancouver. The Canucks are getting healthier but they have been fighting in low scoring battles, like the Jets. Don't be fooled: Thatcher Demko is still out, but Spencer Martin has filled in nicely actually. It looks like this could be a close game and low scoring. I could see a or 3-1 or 2-1 win for the Jets. I really like Hellebuyck here tonight. We'll take the Jets and the under 5.5 goals for the "buy one get one", boosted odds.

Two Leg Parlay:

Over 0.5 points Jeff Carter vs Seattle -125

Over 2.5 shots Brayden Point vs New Jersey -135

2 Pick Parlay +213

I was hesitant to put Chris Kreider on this same leg, but I wanted to eliminate some of the randomness of having 3 legs. Let's just bring it home, and get the W with Old Man Jeff flourishing in a new role in Penguins. My go-to shot guy in Tampa, Nikita Kucherov, takes a back seat tonight for Brayden Point who is on the top line and top powerplay against the Devils at home. I'm thinking he will not disappoint us. Go Canada!
