Hockey Bets 04/05
Kurt Kuklewicz
Mega bets day! Today, there are 11 hockey games, and while we are on a nice little streak, I have locked up many bets for tonight. There are a BUNCH of em, so be ready. Here is what the King of Player Props has on the table for tonight with 2 game lines (I'll try to keep it short and sweet so it doesn't end up being a novel):
Patrice Bergeron Anytime Goal Scorer @ Detroit (+175)
When you hear Bergy's name, the thing you think of immediately is great two way defensive play and feeding pucks to scorers. Don't be fooled though. In the last 3 games against Detroit, he has 5 goals, all from this year. The other impressive thing that makes me do a double take when I look at, is the shots. In the past 12 games, Bergy has 10 games of 4 shots or more. I don't remember him ever firing the puck at this frequency. In fact, this year he currently has 4 shots a game, when his previous high was 3.8 in the 2016-17 season. Given the current affair of the Detroit goaltending when they are letting up 5, 12, 10 goals in some games... I'll take my chances with Bergy potting a goal. Go B's!
Filip Forsberg o2.5 shots on goal VS Minnesota (-170)
If you read our past few articles, Minnesota has really been letting up a lot of shots. They averaged about 38 shots against in the last 4 games. After selecting Teuvo Tervainen for over 2.5 shots in the Carolina / Minnesota game, I saw everyone else on Carolina hitting their shot lines, except him. It was classic FOMO- if only I kept it simple, and went with a guy who is more of a natural shooter like Aho... Ah-well. This time I will take Nashville's best scorer and shooter in Forsberg.
Josh Norris o0.5 points @ Montreal (-155)
Montreal has kind of fallen back to Earth recently. They aren't really winning many upset games (except for that nice one against Tampa I took when Elliott was in net), and Cole Caufield is not producing at 2 points a game any longer. More importantly, Josh Norris has gone on a nice run here lately- 7 points in the last 5 games. He seems like Ottawa's best goal scorer, and easily.
Auston Matthews o3.5 shots on goal @ Florida (-155)
The rule is simple, you don't bet over 3.5 shots for anyone not named Matthews or Ovechkin. Easy money tonight here I feel. Florida has been vulnerable and in order to keep up with lightning scoring, we will see at least 5-10 shot attempts for Matthews. He just needs to land 4 on net, and we will be fine.
Connor McDavid o3.5 shots on goal @ San Jose (-115)
The rule is you never bet over 3.5 shots for anyone not named Matthews or Ovechk... ah screw it. McDavid must be making his late season case for the Hart Trophy because he has 33 shots in the last 5 games. 8 shots on average in the last 3 games for one of, if not the best hockey player in the world. I'll take that against a team like the Sharks.
Kevin Hayes o0.5 points VS Columbus (-130)
I will die on a hill fully believing that Kevin Hayes is the best player on the Flyers when healthy this year. Columbus has been struggling defensively and notoriously gets in big shootouts.
Tyler Bertuzzi 0.5 points VS Boston (+110)
Jeremy Swayman gets the call tonight, but I really like the way that the Bruins are playing lately. He missed last game against Ottawa, as one of the only remaining (officially confirmed) unvaccinated players for Covid. But before this, he was in a minor slump with 1 point in 4 games. I like this bet way better than something else entirely like Boston Moneyline for the odds we are getting.
Carolina @ Buffalo o6 goals (-120)
Anderson vs Andersen tonight. This should be an interesting game. The Hurricanes like to slow the game down when they lock an early lead, but Buffalo has been playing much better than we are accustomed to lately. They made some tough times for teams like Florida, Toronto and Chicago (but who is not scoring on the Blackhawks lately?). I have to think that they get on the board at least twice tonight against Carolina. I can see a 5-2 game with an empty netter, or a 4-3 OT win.
Michael Bunting o0.5 points @ Florida (-135)
Florida is an offensive powerhouse and that means HERO MODE MATTHEWS toinight. I expect 5-10 shot attempts as we discussed tonight. Bunting should get a point by association playing on the top line with Matthews alone.
Columbus @ Philadelphia o6.5 goals (-110)
Columbus is letting up a lot of goals, Philly is scoring decently actually, and blowing a lot of leads and squandering 2-4 goals away in the 3rd period. What's not to like here for over 6.5 tonight?
Bonus 3 Leg Player Parlay (+607)
Bryan Rust o3.5 shots VS Colorado
Charlie McAvoy o0.5 points @ Detroit
Kevin Fiala o2.5 shots on goal @ Nashville
These are some of the things that popped out to me on my radar, but I already had props selected in most of these. Bryan Rust o3.5 shots is obviously the hardest leg to hit here, but he just had Seven (yes, seven) shots against Colorado just 3 days ago. Additionally, he has been getting more ice time than I remember. Here is his latest numbers for ice time in the latest 3 games- 21:21, 23:08, and 19:06. The return to Crosby and Guentzel's line is also a reason I think he pulls this off. Charlie McAvoy has 9 points in the last 5 games and he draws Detroit... Kevin Fiala in a revenge game against his former team. I booked it for $7.50.
