Football Bets Week 18
Kurt Kuklewicz
Week 18 is the last week of the regular season. It's been a long ride, but it's been fun doing all of these articles for every week with bets taken in the NFL season. Week 18 is interesting because there are usually player incentives in their contracts (Example, catch 80 passes an earn an extra $500K). This week there are a few of those. We also have to be VERY careful with playing players in games where the outcome has little meaning. Here is our bets taken during the last week of the regular season.
DK Metcalf ov5.5 receptions (+100)
The Seahawks have a pretty good chance to earn a wildcard spot today if they can beat the Rams. They would still need the Lions to beat the Packers, but their game is played before the NFC North divisional showdown. So they will absolutely play their starters hard today. With Goodwin on IR and Tyler Lockett, who just had hand surgery still likely not at 100%, Metcalf should be heavily relied on today. During their last meeting, he managed 8 receptions, and has hit at least 6 receptions in 3 of the last 4. It helps that the Rams havea a lot of uncertainty surrounding them. Matthew Stafford looks on the verge of retirement. Aaron Donald, who is out today, also teased a retirement after their Super Bowl win last year. Furthermore, even Sean McVay's status as the head coach is no longer certain. How far they have fallen since last year's superbowl. Regardless, I am smashing DK to get that reception over today in a huge game where they need him most.
Carl Lawson ov0.5 sacks (+130)
Lawson is just 1 sack away from $600K. Additionally, Lawson has a very solid match-up against the Dolphins today. They will play Skylar Thompson as starter for the injured Tua and Teddy Bridgewater. Thompson played a few snaps earlier in the season, and he did not look great. Since the Jets have a tremendous pass defense, I would definitely look for Thompson to make some mistakes, including holding the ball for far too long when there isn't an open receiver.
Isiah McKenzie ov30.5 receiving yards (-115)
McKenzie is about 45 yards away from a $100K bonus. Considering that the Bills would like to win this game, they aren't likely to force him the ball if it isn't there. However, I expect McKenzie to hit this line naturally anyway, even without the incentive. In the last two games against the Pats, McKenzie has received 17 targets and converted 16 of those into receptions, with a total of 169 receiving yards. With Gabe Davis's inconsistency and Diggs getting a lot of the attention from the Pats secondary (he has 5 TD in the last 4 games against NE), expect McKenzie to find some work underneath.
