Hockey Bets 03/10

Kurt Kuklewicz

That 5-2 Tuesday night was a great gift to us all. Blessed is he, who listens to the king of props, for he is mighty powerful and wise. There's really a great day of betting props in front of us. Today, we call upon the king of props with 13 great decisions of match-ups to bet on, including 8 bets in particular. May our day be ever profitable.

Nick Schmaltz o0.5 points @ Toronto (-105)

This ALMOST seems too good to be true. A player with 12 points in his last 3 games, and 11 in the last 2, is getting -105 tonight for just one point? Against Toronto? Have you seen this team play recently? Sure, they may be winning, but they are only doing this by completely out-scoring their goal-tending and defensive issues. They have let up 45 goals against in the last 10 games. To name some of the opponents during this stretch is also very troubling. Vancouver, Seattle, Montreal, Columbus (twice), Detroit, Buffalo have all scored 4 or more goals against the Maple Leafs during this 10 game run. Do the Leafs just not try as hard against teams they are considered "locks" against? This can't be good for them against Arizona then today... Consider a point for Schmaltz a very confident bet. Keep in mind that there are other great boosts here that I can see happening for Schmaltz that can make parlay tickets pretty interesting (I like the assists prop best probably, as this is most well suited to Schmaltz's play-style):

Anytime goal: (+240)

Over 0.5 assists (+180)

Over 1.5 shots (-155)

Over 0.5 PPP (+425)

Jack Eichel o3.5 shots @ Buffalo (+105)

Eichel returns to Buffalo, where I am sure the boos will reign down on him, whenever he touches the puck. There will definitely not be a tear-jerking "thank you for your time" video montage in this game like we have seen with other players like Fleury in his return to Pittsburgh. While Vegas looked like trash on paper against Philly on Tuesday, Carter Hart really stole this game from them with 46/47 saves. Jack is coming off a 9 shot performance, and he has chance for revenge against the team that he openly had tension with about the handling of his neck injury. In fact, he shot over 4 shots in 7 out of the last 8 games, including the last 6 in a row. He is almost certainly going to want to make them pay this game. We joked around with a $4.20 bet on a Eichel hat-trick a couple nights ago- but could this be the game? He really is due with the amount of shots he is taking, and thus far, the rather unlucky puck luck with just 7.5 shooting percentage this season. He is around a 10-11% shooter usually. Food for thought.

Moritz Seider o0.5 points VS Minnesota (-125)

Mo Seider has emerged recently as the front runner for the Calder trophy, as Lucas Raymond has cooled off a bit in the past 3-5 games. Seider also has 12 points in the last 10 games as well, which is outstanding. In their match-up earlier in the season, Seider posted two assists. He has great chance to get on the board again, against the Wild who are still reeling from a couple blowouts and upsets in the last handful of games.

Gabriel Landeskog o0.5 points @ Carolina (-160)

I'm sorry to say this, but Antti Raanta just does not give me great vibes as a temporary solution to Freddie Andersen's injury status. And we are still sore that he busted a parlay on us when he let Calle Jarnkork score TWO points against them this Sunday. The other thing to keep in mind is that Landeskog is playing at a point per game pace this year, unsurprisingly.

Patrick Laine u0.5 points @ New York Islanders (+110)

Considering how bad I have been on under bets lately, you may just want to lock in the "Patrick Laine to score 3 or more goals" tonight at +3500 and become Jeffrey Bezos on a $1000 bet. The logic behind the under this time is that Sorokin has looked awesome in the past 7 starts, as he had quality starts in 5 out of those 7 games, and we know that Laine can be polarizing with his play. I think Trotz knows that Columbus will rely on Laine to win, and if anyone will have a good game plan to shut him down, its him... But maybe do a .75 hedge bet of a hat-trick? I'm only half kidding.

Jonathan Huberdeau o2.5 shots VS Philadephia (-125)

Huberdeau is playing as one of the best players in the league right now. Carter Hart pulled a rabbit out of his mask against Vegas, but I don't think he will be able to do it again against Florida. Also, even if he does, the defense is playing horrendously and gave up nearly 50 shots last game to Vegas. In 2 games against Philly this year, Huberdeau had 2 goals and 2 assists and 10 shots total. 3 shots tonight should be very easy.

Trevor Zegras o2.5 shots @ Nashville (+130)

Watching the game on Gamecenter against the Blackhawks Tuesday, I was pleasantly surprised when Zegras logged 3 shots on goal by the beginning of the 2nd period. It really seems like since Getzlaf has been out, he's been taking advantage with firing the puck on net, and logging more ice time. Getzlaf has been moved to IR and will miss tonight's game. I want one more run (and maybe some more) of Zegras's shots while he is getting this bump in deployment.

Timo Meier anytime goal scorer @ LA (+165)

So the guy hasn't scored in 5 games. He still shot the puck 17 times in that stretch. Last time he faced the Kings, you know what happened? 6 shots, 5 goals. The goalie for that game was Jonathan Quick, but even if Cal Petersen starts this one, the Kings defense still has to contain Meier, which they didn't last time at least. Drew Doughty is also dinged up, and the Sharks will get Erik Karlsson back tonight to help dish the puck around. While Timo's shooting percentage is low recently, I will take that extra boost to our goal scoring odds tonight.
